Applied MetOcean is not built around a junior production hierarchy. The people involved in a project are the people capable of doing the technical work: modelling, coding, reviewing, diagnosing, interpreting and communicating the result.

We operate as a lightweight senior-specialist practice. Some work is handled directly by Applied MetOcean; some work brings together independent experts with complementary modelling, scientific, engineering and business-development depth. The problem determines who comes together, and roles are confirmed engagement by engagement.

The collaborators behind this work have operated across the full professional arc of coastal and metocean practice: research, modelling, consulting, project leadership, technical review, client communication and delivery.

Onur Kurum

Founder and senior technical modeller

Onur is the founder of Applied MetOcean, with a coastal engineering practice focused on storm surge, waves, hydrodynamics, morphodynamics, compound flooding, climate-risk modelling and geospatial analysis. His work connects numerical modelling, spatial data, sediment and shoreline response, flood-risk assessment, offshore and coastal infrastructure, technical review and decision support.

He leads the geospatial side of Applied MetOcean, including GIS-based analysis, spatial data processing, model input preparation, mapping, and the translation of numerical model results into decision-ready spatial outputs. His prior consulting and research experience spans more than a decade of high-stakes coastal, metocean, sediment, flood-risk and infrastructure studies.

David is a coastal and offshore numerical modeller with deep experience developing, modifying and applying process-based hydro-, morphodynamic, wave and CFD models. His work spans sediment dispersion, shoreline evolution, scour, offshore structures, breakwaters, reefs, seawalls, harbour flushing, nature-based systems and compound overland flooding.

He brings strong model-development depth across TELEMAC-family workflows, REEF3D/CFD applications, sediment transport algorithms, wetting-drying methods, free-surface flow solvers and parallel scientific computing.

Tim brings more than three decades of coastal, marine, port, waterfront, environmental and industrial hydraulics experience across international consultancy practice. His work spans ports, harbours, marinas, waterfront developments, coastal management, environmental assessment support, numerical modelling and marine industrial hydraulics.

He has worked across the full consulting arc: site selection, masterplanning, feasibility, modelling, environmental studies, design support, project management, client communication and delivery.
